Empty your cup
Some ideas on changing yourself.
“As I am preparing for my trip to Japan, lots of idea comes into my mind. This is one of my biggest dream to travel there and I get to live there as a student. This experience will completely change me.” - 2017
What kind of person do I want to become?
My thoughts brought me to this idea: “Empty your cup.”
If the cup is already full, then how can I pour new ideas into it? It leads to the other idea where I have to “kill” my old self to “reborn” into a new person.
“Unlearn what I have learned.”
In other words, get rid of the things that slows you down or that you don’t want to see in your “new” future, which will let new place for new ideas. Relating it to investment, it’s the same idea as rebalancing. You sell the bad companies, which free spaces for other new opportunities. And you keep the good ones.
I truly believe in the “law of small win” and connection between the mind and the body. With those two concepts in mind, I will take action to slowly change/ remove things outside of my mind where I attached or “see” myself in.
A good example would be to throw away clothes that I don’t recognize the “new” me to wear. When I will be in Japan, to change my hairstyle color. These actions will act like a snow ball and by gradually changing “things” related to me, my mind will also change.
There is no rush.
The first step would be to clean.
“Get rid of things I don’t want in my new future”
Clean your clothes, books, items related to you, documents, files, pictures, etc.
Clean your social media friends (facebook, wechat, instagram, snapchat, etc.)
Clean your “money”. By this, I mean, pay off debts, create a budget and set some financial goals.
The second step would be cleaning my “habits.” Basically, the idea is to be conscious of your current habits and decide which one you want to change into what. A big one for me would be to have a consistent sleeping schedule, meal plan and exercise plan. The combination of those 3 will boost my “health” tremendously.
The third step would be to redefine myself.
Some big questions would be:
What’s my dream again?
What other things do I want to accomplish in this life?
What kind of mate am I looking for? What can I offer?
What actions can I take to become a stronger version of myself?
What do I like about this life? What do I hate?
Who am I again?
What kind of person do I want to see in my life?
What kind of “information” do I want to be expose to?
I think I will do step 2 and 3 before the trip because it will “refresh” my idea of me. Then, repeat step 2 and 3 after the trip because of the new experience I will acquire.
“I live like a turtle. I go out of the shell and explore the world.
I experience and absorb as much as I can, then I realize I am weak.
So, I go back to my shell and focus on the areas I need to improve.
By becoming a stronger version of myself,
I will have the confidence to go out of the shell again
and see the world from another perspective.
Experience more, get hurt more, growth stronger.”
