Finding your career path
Before, we discuss career path. We must first define what “job” means to us. Society and parent and people who are brainwashed will say that “you must get a job and make money.” The problem here is the discussion comes to an end too quickly.
What I would like to offer is some more ideas to expand your thinking process.
Discussion 1: Definition of “job” and relationship to us
Job is a “way” or “vehicle” that helps you “give back” to society. Intrinsically, by working, you are helping to solve someone else’s problem. You make their lives a little bit better.
Job is an “excuse” to go to a place where other people go, so you get to interact and create bond with them. (Same idea with school, situation makes that you have to go to a location and do something that others do to for a certain period of time.) It’s nice because you get to make friends. Those friends can talk (at least) the working subject and share your working experience.
Job is a big “training centre”. You go out there, learn and practice skills on real people and real case scenario. You build different skills and get to make mistakes. You can eventually grow strong enough to take over a business or start your own.
Job is a “mirror”. You are not supposed to enjoy work. Job should make you feel like you are wasting your time. The money you make is not enough. It’s supposed to makes you feel frustration. Working makes you pay huge tax. All these negative feelings, if you accept them, “listen to your heart” should push you to open your own business. “Be your own boss.”
Job is a “support”. With the right mentality, it gives you money, connection and skills, which helps you support your dream.
So, the idea is to work a 9-5 jobs which gives you money and helps you build skills, so during your free time (6h/day), you can focus on your dream.
“It’s not about finding the perfect fit job. It’s about using the job to leverage your life. “
See below more ideas on jobs.
“That’s how I see life. Something that makes you feel repressed actually turns into your own originality. We all have something we consciously keep inside because the society tell us not to express it. But there is somewhere you can do it and even become a hero. I believe there is always a place you can be yourself. Even if you couldn’t find it, you can create that place. ”

“Find something relaxing in your job.”

“Do what makes you happy. Some people is pushing there passion, others is spending quality time with friends.”
– Andre
Job is like relationship, if you don’t like it then just change it.
“You’re looking to give your life meaning. You’re looking specifically for internal validation and self-worth (the feeling inside you’re doing something worthwhile) and external validation from providing a service to the world around you.”
“This doesn’t mean that only actions with billion-person outcomes have value. It means that when you take action that generates meaning for others and improves their lives even a little, this increases your worth on the planet. The more worth you have, and greater the contribution you make, the happier you will be because people are called to be both consumers and creators.” – Reddit
Discussion 2: What matters in the job is the people and the environment.
Whenever someone ask me about career advice, I ask them:
“What type of uniform do you want to wear everyday?”
· If you had the choice, how do you want people to see you? Someone relax, someone strict, someone responsible, inspire security?
“What type of conversation do you want to have?”
· If you had the choice, what do you enjoy talking about. What if you are paid to talk about this topic. Crazy.
· Who do you want to talk to? Customers, employees, experts, etc.
· Which languages do you want to express yourself?
· No matter which job, you will have to read on the trend affecting your specific industry.
“What type of people do you want to get influence by?”
· If you had a choice, what kind of co-workers do you want? After work, they all go drink alcohol at a bar, they build a family and raise kids, they go do drugs, they watch netflix, they go sing KTV, they return home and do more research, they flip houses, they trade penny stocks, they renovate their kitchens, they hit the gym, they go out and pick up girls, etc.
“What’s your end goal? How can the job help you accomplish it?”
“In your life, did you experience unfairness, events that shocked you, or you felt like you want to “change” or “learn more” about something?
· Idea that life events will make you choose your career path.
· Family die from illness => Become doctor to find cure
· Someone close to you had law case, which was not fair => become lawyer
· Grandma fell down in bathtub => occupational therapy
· Financial advisor sold you a mutual fund => Learn more about investments
· Difficulties picking up girls => become professional PUA
· Insecure about your body => Become personal trainer
“What are you looking for?”
· what’s the top 3 you need at the job?
· Which position fits your personality?
· How much money do you need to make?
· How much time do you need for yourself?
“一步一步來。”
“One step at the time.”
“千里之行,始於足下.”
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
Discussion 3: What if job is a big game?
Think about a game you like to play. What are the aspects of the game you like?
“I start by asking them what aspects of the video game playing they like-is it the strategy of winning? The team work? Collaboration? Independence? Isolation? Imagination? Then, I ask them why they like that aspect? Does it provide a sense of accomplishment? Are they better at it than their peers? Is it challenging?”
The Life Game:
Figured out what makes you happy.
Create a life that allows you to do it.
“Set up a life you don’t need to escape from.”
“They say you can’t chose where you are born, but you can choose where your heart is and where you think you belong.”
“It’s not about you. It’s about helping society.”
-Cells at work
« When you get to do what you want to do, you have won. When you don’t complain, you have won.»
-Gary Vee
Discussion 4: Next action
You have an idea of type of jobs you want to do. Now, it’s all about research and see if the job market offers jobs that fits your criteria.
Practical approach:
e.g.: Introvert, enjoy work from home, computer, coding
Look by industries -> IT -> Look job titles -> Software engineer
-> Look for requirements
Look for school or ways to learn the required skills
Apply for job. Done.
e.g.: Love stock market, love wearing suits, very extrovert
Look at financial industries -> Financial advisor -> requirements -> learn certificate -> apply job -> Done.
